What did you do today?

This morning, I had the days mixed up
again.
Waking early
corralling everyone to the car.
Oops.
It’s tomorrow.

A little dirt won’t hurt
but
clutter drives me
batty.
I spend my spare time
taking the baskets
of bedding and toys
back to the basement,
where they belong.

There is the sentiment,
the pursed mouth look,
that I don’t do enough housework.
Definitions of housework
vary.
Homework is mine.
These children
Are more important.
Listening,
I attempt to
Intuit
their next move,
To stay one step ahead.
Meeting the temperamental
with a blouse-y evenness.

Littles misbehave.
It is their boundary
testing.
They are hungry.
More than you would imagine
so.
They are modeling
behaviour.
The kind you like
and
the kind you don’t like.
The kind that makes
you hand your head
in frustration.

Children saturate
your life.
The foolishness
of folding laundry
and immaculate
kitchens
are later.
Today
is helping hands,
shattered glasses.

You do it your way
and
I will do it mine.

Tomorrow we will wake
in the morning,
rush 5 sleepy heads to the car,
take Dad to work
and
sing multiplication songs
until the begging for something
else
pierces me.

What did you do today?
I was given another.

keeping myself honest with the Write Alm prompts.
