If you are not familiar with a sit spot it is a moment in your day or week whether it be 5 minutes or one hour where you sit, just sit and observe the natural world around you. What is here? Grass, rocks, insects, pollen floating by, birds, squirrels, chicken poop (ahem)? To my mind the sit spot is the fastest, easiest road to nature connection. Our family believes that immersing children in nature will build love and stewardship for the world and the creatures in it far more than a lecture on recycling or turning off the lights. The sit spot is an important re-calibrating moment in our rhythm after those busy weekends that eat up time and energy. Our children’s Monday mornings begin with morning activities (eating, dressing, etc.) and then out for your sit spot-rain or shine! What did you meet? What had changed? There are always observations noted. No matter how small they bring us back to center.
Wherever you are in the world, whatever surrounds you, you are invited to join in!
